Operators of state government run public transport platforms like Lag Ferry, Lag Ride etc have asked the Lagos State Government for time to recalibrate their systems before effecting the slashing of transport fare by 50% as promised as the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
To this end, the new fare will come into effect on Friday, 10th February 2023. It was initially expected to start from today, Thursday February 9 for a one week period.
The fare slash, according to the Governor, is to “cushion the effects of the challenges thrown up by the lack of the new Naira denominations and the lingering fuel shortage”.
To effect the new fare, all the validators on regulated buses and ferry services will have to be re-calibrated so that commuters using the Cowry Card are not short-changed.
The recalibration will be effected on only regulated buses and ferry services.
The state government had also halted road construction works on Ijegun Egba to enable fuel tankers to dispatch
petroleum products.
He also said food banks would be set up in some locations across the state to distribute foodstuffs to Lagosians.
The Governor thanked Lagosians for their understanding, patience and resilience during this difficult moment appealing to them to continue to be peaceful.
He warned unruly persons against wanting to use the crisis to foment trouble.
