The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), both in Zaria, Kaduna State, have stressed the need to strengthen their long standing relationship. This resolution issued following a courtesy call on the Director-General/CE, NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, by the NCAT Rector, Capt. Alkali Modibo, at the former’s office recently.
Dr. Farah who went down memory lane, observed that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NITT and NCAT had not been “fully implemented”; but assured that “we will work together to implement it to the letter.” He recalled with nostalgia the mutually beneficial relationship between the organisations, which regrettably had been on the wane.
“We are neighbours in many dimensions; we are from the transport family”, Dr. Farah said.
The NITT boss disclosed that the institute was introducing new programmes that would not only professionalise the transport and logistics industry, but also add to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He stressed that NITT would like to collaborate with NCAT in the development of these programmes especially, the technical aspects.
According to the NITT DG, other possible areas of partnership include Intelligent Transport System (ITS), Transport Data Bank, technical exchanges, training participation, etc.
Speaking earlier, the NCAT Rector, Capt. Alkali Modibo, observed that “it is very important for us to work together for the growth of the nation.” Regarding collaboration on ITS and Data Bank, Capt. Modibo stated, “We will need a letter from NITT on Data Bank and ITS to see how we can partner.”
Capt. Modibo further revealed that the federal government had granted approval for the expansion of NCAT runway to make it possible to “fly from Zaria to Lagos and Yola.” He also noted that NITT could take advantage of the new Airport Emergency Training School and other programmes in NCAT.
Without mincing words, the NCAT Rector declared: “We are impressed with the development in NITT”; and demanded to know the secret behind the transformation.
