The South-East Governors Forum on Thursday expressed worry that repair works at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, might not be ready before the Easter deadline.
The governors appealed to the Federal Government for the timely completion of works at the airport as it promised.
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria had on August 24, 2019, shut down the airport for major rehabilitation.
On January 2, 2020, the Minister of Aviation- Senator Hadi Sirika, said the airport would be ready for use before Easter this year.
However, the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State- David Umahi, who was at the airport complex, said although he was satisfied at the extent of the work, the possibility that the contractors would deliver the project worried him.
“We are impressed with the quality and speed of the work and believe that at the end of the day, we shall have a lasting airport,” he said.
The Project Consultant, Mr Sani Baba, had earlier told the governor that the contractor had wanted to deliver the project in June 2020 but the Federal Government rejected it and insisted on delivering the job by the last week of April 2020.
