The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, has lost one of its officers from attack by daredevil smugglers.

This was revealed by the Unit Public Relations Officer, Theophilus Duniya in a Press Statement.

The sad occurrence took place on the 11th of September, 2021, at the Owode area of Ogun State.

The Officer, an Assistant Inspector of Customs (driver) was killed during an operation after two vehicles loaded with smuggled foreign parboiled rice were seized and conveyed to Lagos.

Unfortunately, one of the Vehicles was said to have developed mechanical problems and while being fixed, the suspected daredevil smugglers came out with arms, charms, stones Etc in their large number and murdered the Officer.

While condemning the Act, the New Acting Comptroller of the Unit, Deputy Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu has directed investigations into the case.

He said, “The killing will not deter FOU Zone A, under my leadership from carrying out our statutory functions in the interest of National Security”.

He further stated that, “Seizures of smuggled items and arrest of suspects will be sustained, unless the perpetrators embrace a change of hearts and embrace legitimate trades”.

The corpse of the deceased officer has been deposited in the mortuary while investigations have since began.
