The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Barrister Hassan Bello, has said its agency will be fully digitalised for effective service delivery, adding that it will help in curbing corruption in the system.
The ES stated this in a press briefing in his office with journalists. Bello noted that with the digitalised systems in our ports, clearance of cargoes and services will be simpler, faster and more economical.
“We plan to reduce paperwork and human presence in the ports to the barest minimum”, he said.
“You can pay all your charges, and conduct the movement of your cargoes from the comfort of your home or office.”
He explained that one of the major challenges facing the shipping industry is over-dependence on road transport.

“The council is making arrangement to ensure the use of rail transport as it will be more effective, cheaper and beneficial to Nigeria. One train movement of goods takes away about fifteen trailers from the road.”
According to him, the Shipping council is working with relevant stakeholders in the transport sector towards coming up with modalities that will ensure a safe return to normal shipping operations within all ports in Nigeria.
“By the time we complete the reforms we are undergoing, there will be a reduction in the transporting of goods from our ports
“Agencies under the Federal Ministry of Transportation have come together to resolve the problem at the ports including the gridlock at the Apapa, supporting more establishment of Dry ports and more, all to see that service delivery is better for those doing business with us”, Bello said.
