Three police inspectors serving with the Ogun State Command are to face disciplinary action for their alleged involvement in extortion.
The Inspectors, Ikhanorba Lucky, Paul Sunday and Edwin Ekeogu are accused of extorting money from commercial motorcyclists around Maawu Bustop, Agbado in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.
The three inspectors were said to have been caught on camera while the video capturing their professional misconduct had gone viral.
They were alleged to have committed the illegal act on October 19, 2023.
The statement read, “On October 19, 2023, Inspector Ikhanorba Lucky, Inspector Paul Sunday, and Inspector Edwin Ekeogu were involved in an incident of professional misconduct while on visibility policing duty at Maawu Bus stop in the Agbado area of the state.
“These officers were caught on camera extorting money from commercial motorcyclists in contravention of the Police Act and Regulations. The inappropriate actions of the three policemen were subsequently shared on social media.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has taken note of this incident and strongly condemned the unprofessional act of the men.
“To address this misconduct, the command has activated appropriate disciplinary measures against the erring personnel to ensure that they are held accountable for their misconduct and to serve as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to toe this ignoble path.”
