Pomegranate Nigeria Limited (PNL), a logistics firm, has presented digital breathalysers to the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Wole Elusakin, the donation was part of the organisation’s efforts to reduce road accidents caused by drunk drivers.
He said “PNL recognises importance of safety on the roads, particularly for drivers and other stakeholders, hence its decision to partner the FRSC in addressing the issue of drunk-driving.
“The breathalysers are commonly used to detect and prevent drunk driving, ensure workplace safety and enforce law and order. They have several advantages, including ability to detect alcohol levels quickly and accurately and their ease of use.
“Apart from providing efficient and reliable logistics solutions to clients across the country, the company equally prioritizes safety, quality, well-being of the people, especially road users.
“Our basic call to action as a logistics company is safety on the road. We prioritise safety and prompt delivery of goods, and this initiative is a demonstration of our commitment to this goal. This initiative focuses on reducing accidents caused particularly among articulated vehicle drivers.”
Elusakin said the donation started in Ogun State because “it is the industrial hub of the country with its attendant heavy vehicular activities. We will soon take the donation to other FRSC state commands.”
State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, said: “The donation is timely as the FRSC is set to commence enforcement random alcohol tests for drivers. Drunk driving, over speeding and fatigued tyres are the major causes of road accident deaths in the country.
“The FRSC in Ogun State will intensify enlightenment and awareness campaigns on the dangers of consuming alcoholic beverages by drivers. Safety on our roads is a collective responsibility. We appreciate the company’s commitment to this cause.
“The donation of breathalysers is a significant contribution to our efforts to reduce accidents on our roads. We will work closely with PNL and its partners to ensure effective implementation of this initiative.”
