The National Chairman and entire members of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers-Petroleum Tanker Drivers (NUPENG PTD) has commiserated with the families of people that lost their lives in the fire incident that took place last week following a crash involving a tanker that fell and caught fire on the Otedola bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a statement by the National Chairman of NUPENG PTD, Otunba Salmon Akanni Oladiti, he said “this is a most unfortunate occurrence because in the recent past, such calamities have been avoided as members of the NUPENG /PTD have been collaborating with the FRSC and other law enforcement agencies in observing minimum safety standards on the highways and engaging in training and retraining of our members.
“All efforts will be put in place to ensure that this kind of disaster does not occur again on our roads. We sincerely mourn the dead and share the pains of affected families, the Lagos State Government and the entire people of Nigeria”.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has said a combination of vehicular defect and human errors were responsible for the Thursday tanker fire on Otedola Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which led to the death of 10 persons and destruction of 54 vehicles. The government said it had taken some measures to prevent a recurrence, adding that it had restricted movement of fuel tankers to trailer route.
