The Niger state government and the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) have indicated their readiness to collaborate in the interest of easing transportation of passengers and goods in the state and neighbouring states.

This was revealed recently when the Niger state Governor, His Excellence, Abubakar Sani Bello, visited the Chairman of the NRC Board of Directors, Engineer Ibrahim AlHassan Musa recently in Lagos.

The Governor stated that the essence of the meeting was to explore areas of collaboration in order to maximize the railways as a mean of transportation in the state.

According to the Governor, Niger state and NRC need to synergise, as “our ministry of transport will work with you in order to improve the movement of passengers and goods. There are a lot of agricultural produce to be moved”.

The Governor commended the Board, Management and Staff of the NRC, as he acknowledged that though the NRC had suffered a lot of neglect in the past, “I believe we can still bring back the glorious days”.

Earlier, the Board Chairman of NRC, Engineer Ibrahim AlHassan Musa, stated that the NRC is open to collaborating with Niger state in order to improve the movement of passengers and goods.

The Managing Director of NRC, Engr. Fidet Okhiria, who supported the Chairman to receive the State Governor, added that the NRC has taken delivery of additional wagons and coaches as it continues to improve railway transportation in the country.
