The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has concluded the registration and licensing of 28 Empty Containers Holding Bays with a total capacity of 137,000 TEUs.

Managing Director,
Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello-Koko, stated this at the 2022 Seminar/Awards organised by the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) in Lagos earlier in the week.

The Managing Director was represented by the General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communication of the Authority, Mrs. Yemisi Oyinlola at the event.

According to the MD, that was part of  Initiatives by NPA to facilitate trade through the Sea.

Other initiatives of the NPA, the MD said include On-going rehabilitation of port access roads to improve hinterland connectivity.

“On-going rail linkage to Lagos Port Complex, Apapa aimed at addressing the pervading gridlock and facilitating cargo evacuation.

“Scaling up Port capacity via investment in Deep-sea Ports. For instance, construction of Lekki Deep Sea Port is completed and ready for commercial operations along with the development of others towards expanding port capacity.

“Electronic Truck-traffic Call-up system in Lagos Pilotage District towards addressing Truck congestion along the port access road”.

And “Licensing of 37Satellite Truck Parks (with the capacity to accommodate 7,000 trucks) to service the incoming trucks to the ports in Lagos under the Electronic Truck Call-Up System (ETO) which became operational in July, 2021.”
