As the world mark the International Workers Day today,
the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA), has called for improved working conditions for Seafarers and better living conditions for workers.
In a Statement titled ‘Workers Day Solidarity Message’, made available to Transport Day, the national President of the association, C/Engr. Bob Joseph Yousuo, “wishes Nigerian Seafarers and other workforce happy WORKERS DAY”.
He also “appreciated them for their doggedness and professionalism in the discharge of their herculean task”
The frontline maritime personality also called on “both the federal and state governments to consider the plight of Nigerian workers in this economic hardship for minimum living wages”.
Advising the federal government to revisit the issue of electricity/telecom tariffs, he opined that the federal government should expedite action to see that the Port Harcourt refinery kick start production to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians as a result of the current fuel scarcity.
He reiterated the need for Nigeria Seafarers to be well paid in line with the global best practices.
C/Engr. Bob urged the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy through the DG NIMASA, to “ensure bilateral/multilateral agreement with Maritime nations for the recognition of COCs which will automatically lead to employment opportunities for Nigeria Seafarers in other countries”.
He salutes the courage and resilience of Nigerian workers and urges them to be “united and resist the Slaves Masters.
Once again, bravo to the ever cautious and gallant Nigerian workers. Solidarity forever”.
