The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Mr. Bola Oyebamiji FCIB, has commended the efforts of his management team in the development of the inland waterways transportation sub-sector.
The MD expressed this when the newly appointed Board chairman of the authority paid him a familiarization visit at the Abuja liaison office.
According to him, he is blessed with an experienced and dedicated team which he cannot take the glory alone.
Responding, the newly appointed board chairman Hon. Musa Sarkin-Adar MHR, thanked the MD for the warm reception and urged the authority to do more in connecting other states in water transportation.
He emphasized on the need for the involvement of the private sector in the development of water transportation, as government cannot do it alone.
The chairman encouraged NIWA to phase out wooden boats in order to minimize boats accidents on the waterways, and further urged the MD and his team to do their best in order to leave a lasting legacy so that history will remember them.
