To enhance Navigational safety for all water users, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has laid water buoys from Gbajibo in Niger state to Gbajibo-Mundi in Kwara state.

A Press Release made available to Transport Day Media by NIWA Assistant General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Suleiman Makama, stated that “the number of buoys used were 10 red colour and 6 green colour. The river is generally deep with the least depth of 21.3m.

“The Authority is taking this proactive step towards safeguarding our waterways. These buoys serve as critical markers, indicating safe Navigation channels, warning of hazards and designating protected areas”.

During the recently held 2025 NIWA management retreat, the Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, FCIB, emphasized on safety regulations and improve operational efficiency across the Nation’s Inland Waterways.
