The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), has officially taken over the Navigational Aids Flight Inspection and Surveillance (NAFIS) hangar in Lagos, after the handover by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The handover ceremony, which held last week at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, was attended by officials from NAMA, NCAA, and representatives from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
The transfer process included an inspection of the NAFIS facility and verification of assets among which are: The NAFIS hangar, an unserviceable calibration aircraft (HS-125), a ground power generator, a state-of-the-art flight calibration laboratory, a library and several office spaces.
Experts say the transfer is expected to significantly improve NAMA’s operational efficiency and its ability to conduct advanced flight calibration services, which are critical for maintaining the safety and reliability of Nigeria’s airspace.
Managing Director of NAMA, who was represented by Director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services at NAMA, Terese Iheanacho, highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to repositioning NAFIS as a global leader in flight calibration services.
“The Federal Government has already transferred the operation of the Beechcraft KingAir 350i flight calibration aircraft (registration marking 5N-CAA) and its crew to NAMA. With the development of indigenous flight calibration crews, NAMA is now fully equipped to provide routine and commissioning flight calibration services, not only within Nigeria but also internationally. Today’s handover is a direct implementation of the Ministerial directive to enhance Nigeria’s aviation capabilities,” he said.
