Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has banned the operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles from the state as from Thursday (today). This is due to the reported influx of unidentified persons believed to have been infected with Coronavirus from Lagos and Kano states into the State.
In a statement, Sule said the drastic steps taken were aimed at controlling and containing the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic.
Similarly, the order equally restricted the use of private motorcycles to only one passenger and only in other parts of the state not placed on total lockdown.
The statement, however, directed all security operatives, government functionaries and traditional rulers to ensure full compliance with the proclamation, affirming that security patrols will be intensified to ensure full compliance, even as it warned that defaulters will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He said, “The issuance of this restriction remains necessary to protect the citizens of the state from the possibility of contracting the disease from infiltrators and to minimise the potential for spread.”
