The Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association (NAFSA) has advocated for a reduction of the 40 percent Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) remitted by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to the Federation Account.
The association said this recently when its top officials paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The National President of NAFSA, Ugbeikwu Sunday who led the delegation to the meeting, appealed to the Minister to use his good offices to plead with the Federal Government to reconsider its stance concerning the 40% deduction from FAAN’s IGR and urged that the FG reverts to the previous 25% remittance to enable FAAN to function more effectively as the present status of the 40% remittance hurts the welfare of members and FAAN workers in general.
Ugbeikwu stressed that NAFSA draws the preponderance of its members from FAAN so their welfare must be given adequate attention, hence the need to revert to 25% remittance to the FG coffers.
He concluded by saying that if that can be done, the welfare of their members and FAAN staff in general will receive more attention from the agency’s management.
In his response, Keyamo said that he has received many letters to that effect and that though the FG was proposing an increase of the remittance to 50%, the plea by the NAFSA will be looked into and would be channeled to the appropriate quarters for consideration, as he was not the originator of the proposal.
