The Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association has bagged the Nigeria Transport Awards as the Maritime Transport Association of the year. The association is among other organizations and individuals honoured at the 8th Nigeria Annual Transport Lecture featuring Lectures, Exhibitions and Awards.
According to the Editor of Transport Day newspaper (organisers of the event), Mr. Frank Kintum, Transport Day Newspaper after much research on this year’s award deemed it fit to recognize the association as the best Maritime association in the year under review.
The Editor added that the award is a meritorious one, because during the process of nominations a lot of other associations were also nominated, but after a pain staking research with the boards of editors, the association was selected.
Chief (Engr.) Wale George, Vice National President Shipping Zonal Council and Comdr. John Okpono Aleakhue, Secretary General, received the award plaque on behalf of the visionary leader of the association, High Chief (Engr.) Bob Joseph Yousuo.
Responding, the Secretary General stated that his association appreciates the honour and will continue to contribute positively to the development of the Maritime sector in the country.
Also at the handing over ceremony were senior Captains and Chief Engineers. Capt. Umuarama Michael; Chief Engr. Sese Mike Atina; Capt. Adewale Ajayi; Capt. Victor Banjo, S A to National President on Maritime; Comr. Ifeanyi A. Chukwu, Admin/Asst Secretary Shipping Zonal Council; Comr. Mohamed Suleiman, Asst Secretary General Operations and Jeremiah Obadiah. Others were Asst Secretary General Admin, Comr. Ijeoma Dickson, and Admin Officer, Deck Cadet Sunday Odiri.
