The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has successfully collaborated with the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNO/WTSSA) and Bourdillon Marine and Technical to train 22 LASWA Water Guards.

General Manager of LASWA, Damilola Emmanuel said at the venue of the training in Apapa that it “will shorten the existing response time to an emergency, and will enhance and improve the current emergency and rescue system on our waterways.”

He added that LASWA will continue to identify and build on relevant synergies as “there is an ongoing relationship and we will continue to strengthen and improve and support each other with the available resources that we have.”

Also speaking, the Secretary General of the NMNO/WTSSA, Comrade Alaekhue John Okpono, stated that organisation is excited about the collaboration with LASWA.

According to him, “we appreciate your efforts in all you are doing to improve safety on Lagos waterways. Safety is very important.”

Managing Director of Bourdillon Marine and Technical (who is also the Vice National President, Shipping Zone of NMNO/WTSSA), Engr. Wale George Ogunsola, commended the efforts of the LASWA boss in enhancing water safety in Lagos state. He later presented a Commander’s Cap of the Union to the LASWA GM, signifying his acceptance into the fold.

The theme of the training was on Marine Emergency Search and Rescue, with focus on Quick Response to Emergency Search and Rescue Operations.
