Motorists in the State have been advised to embrace the service being provided by the Lagos State Drivers Institute to improve their driving skills.
State Commissioner for Transportation, Ladi Lawanson gave the advice when he led management team of the Ministry on a working visit to the headquarters, Lagos State Drivers Institute, LASDRI. Oshodi, Lagos recently.
Receiving the Honourable commissioner and his team, the General Manager of the Institute, Mr Phillip Ogunlade thanked him for deeming it necessary to pay a working visit to the Institute so as to have first hand information about its operations.
Ogunlade said among challenges facing the core mandate of the Institute, which is to train current and prospective drivers in the most effective and safety driving skills on roads was that drivers are no longer patronize the institute for training as expected, attributing it to changes in the mode of enforcement of the state traffic laws.
Responding, the Honourable Commissioner promised that the state government would dialogue with State Council of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and other with a view to making them realize the importance of the Drivers Institute to their members adding that the state government would ensure a policy frame work that would assist the Institute to realize its objectives.
Meanwhile, the management and staff of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency LASTMA, have been commended for their untiring effort at ensuring free flow of traffic in the state.
Describing efficient transportation system as the livewire of any economy, Mr. Ladi Lawanson the State Honourable Commissioner for Transport who made the commendation, added that the state government was committed to efficient and effective transport system in the state adding that the state government will do all in its power to ensure that state’s transportation system gets a deserved boost.
Mr. Lawanson who was on his first working visit to the Agency had earlier on been received by its Chief Executive Officer, Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Chris Olakpe who briefed him and his team about the challenges being experienced by LASTMA in the performance of its responsibilities.
