The enforcement team led by the General Manager of LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel on Tuesday 5th of May, 2020, commenced the state-wide inspection of commercial ferry operations with an unscheduled visit to some Jetties in Apapa area of Lagos to monitor compliance by commercial Ferry operators and other waterways users.

In a statement made available to newsmen by the General Manager of LASWA, the enforcement team observed substantial compliance with the government directive, notwithstanding there were few operators who violated the 60% carrying capacity so they were warned and if repeated will be sanctioned accordingly.

Ferry passengers were also advised to always wear a facemask and ensure physical distancing among themselves in order to avoid possible contact with an infected person.

Some of the jetties where ferry operations were monitored by LASWA team include Temidire-Ajegunle and  Liverpool jetty in Apapa area of the state.

The General Manager hinted that the waterways patrol and enforcement is a continuous exercise in Lagos State, so the Authority will continue to monitor all activities on the inland waterways, more importantly, is the adherence to Water Transport guidelines aimed at preventing the spread of Coronavirus. He, therefore, solicited the support of everyone to ensure that Lagos is free of the pandemic.
