The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has disclosed that its marine unit is still searching for the body of the 21-year-old Uber passenger, Toju Davies Daibo, who allegedly plunged into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.
Toju, a resident of Sosanya Street, Soluyi, in the Gbagada area of Lagos, ordered a Uber cab from Gbagada on February 15, 2020.
On getting to the Third Mainland Bridge around 11 AM, he was said to have pretended that he had a stomach upset and begged the driver to stop so he could relieve himself.
In a jiffy, he allegedly climbed the pavement of the bridge and jumped into the water.
A team of state emergency management workers, Marine Police and local divers had yet to find the suicidal man, while the cab driver, Idowu Badmos, was taken to the Adekunle Police Station, along with his car.
The Director-General of LASEMA, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, told our correspondent that the agency’s marine unit had teamed up with local divers to find the body of the victim.
He said, “It is now more of a recovery exercise and we have not stopped the search. Our zonal shark marine unit is still on the lookout for him.
“We have not stopped searching; the recovery is on the ground. We are still searching and our marine unit is 100 per cent on the alert with our local divers. All key stakeholders are also on the lookout for the body.”
