The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwolu, has commissioned a new office complex for the Vehicle Inspection Service in Ojodu area of the state.
This move, the governor stated, is to ensure traffic flow is positively impacted through strict enforcement of relevant traffic laws aided by the application of modern technology to control vehicle breakdown and avoid loss of lives and properties.
The head office is made up of several offices including training hall and conference room. It will accommodate a one-stop center which will be available for sister agencies.
He said “ we will ensure we have a smaller version of the center in all the local government and LCDAs”. He urged all to ensure they are disciplined and civil in dealing with the commuters and the general public at all time. However, he stressed that Government Infrastructure is made possible through contribution of all tax payments.
“This administration have achieved a substantial improvement in traffic law enforcement on roads with the introduction of Automatic Number Plates Recognition ANPR, LACVIS, The Forensic Laboratory, AutoVin, and e-testing for drivers license, this initiatives are consistent with our smart city project and the goal of making Lagos truly a preferred 21st century economy. The VIS plays a critical support and critical role especially at ensuring that all vehicles plying Lagos roads are road worthy” says the Governor.
The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde who was also present said that “the provision of this infrastructure is in line with the VIS vision which is to serve the people of Lagos State by delivering automated services that will ensure a safer transport system that makes global best practices, the commissioning is a giant stride of this administration in ensuring efficient traffic management and transportation”.
The Ministry of Transport sought and obtained approval to construct a standard office which will provide a conducive working environment for VIS in order to boost their morale and enhance their operational efficiency says Dr. Oladeinde.
He added that for easy synergy with other sister agencies, the building accommodates motor vehicle administration agency MVAA, FRSC to provide quick, prompt and quality one-stop service delivery to the general public at large. In ensuring safety of life and property have introduced the Lagos state computerized vehicle inspection service (LACVIS) to ensure proper vehicle documentation and automatic number plates recognition for data analysis of traffic law offences.
“The state has completed 4 additional LACVIS centers in Ojota, Yaba, Olowu and Ibeju Lekki” says the commissioner.
In conclusion, he said “we pledge our commitment and with dedication to our duty in line with the vision of achieving a sustainable transport system that will be the pride of every Nigerian”.
