The Lagos State Lockdown Enforcement Team involving men of the State Task Force, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Nigeria Police Force and Ministry of Transportation has impounded 20 vehicles and 15 motorcycles for violating the lockdown order.
The enforcement team carried out the enforcement over the weekend on the Ikorodu Road, Ojota, Jibowu, Ebute-Metta, Otto and Iddo areas of the State.
The government said among the impounded vehicles were fully loaded interstate buses belonging to some transport companies.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Toyin Fayinka, who led the operation, noted that the enforcement was to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
He said, “The State Government is worried by the non-compliance with the lockdown order and it is also worrisome that Lagos State alone recorded as much as 80 confirmed cases as of the last count, hence the need to strengthen the enforcement of the stay-at-home order in the interest of the public.
“Lagosians need to obey the stay-at-home order and imbibe personal hygiene to support government’s daily efforts in curbing the spread of this highly contagious virus.”
Fayinka, who urged residents to regularly wash and sanitise their hands, maintain social distancing and imbibe personal hygiene, noted that the state government would not relent in its house-to-house testing to further check the community spread of the viral disease.
