A mobile court in Owerri, Imo State, has convicted 24 motorists for violating COVID-19 guidelines in the state. The offenders were arrested by the Federal Road Safety Corps.
They were charged with offences ranging from overloading, social distance violation to lack of drivers licence.
The Magistrate, Adaeze Maduako, imposed fines, ranging from N3,000 to N10,000 on the offenders.
The court proceedings were observed by members of the Imo COVID-19 enforcement task force led by Dr Prosper Success.

Speaking after the court proceedings, the Imo State Sector Commander of FRSC, RS 9.4, Mr Owiamaha Udoma, said the exercise was meant to check the spread of the dreaded virus in the state.
Udoma said “We are complementing government efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 and one of the ways to ensure compliance is to enforce the rules.
“We started enlightenment programmes on COVID-19 guidelines for all the transport unions in Imo since March 2020 and now that the seminar has been concluded, we set up the mobile court for enforcement.”
