The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company management has pledged not to disconnect non-paying customers during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The company also donated relief materials to Kogi and Ekiti State governments to cushion the effects of the lockdown on residents.
The Kwara Regional Head of IBEDC, Ajisafe Bello, after donating N5m worth of relief items to the Kogi State Government, said the company would continue to ensure an adequate supply of electricity as much as was within its control.
He said that the company had also placed its staff on essential duty, while the technical crew were on the ground to repair faults promptly.
Bello said the donation was part of the company’s contributions to the state government’s efforts in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
“This is being done to support the various government initiatives and to help reduce the hardship the lockdown has occasioned on citizens,” he said.
He applauded the proactive measures the Federal and State governments had put in place in the fight against the pandemic.
The Deputy Governor, Edward Onoja, who doubles as the Chairman of the squadron committee on COVID-19 thanked the IBEDC for the gesture and promised to ensure equitable distribution of the palliatives to the people they were meant for.
He later handed over the relief items including 1,000 bags of 5kg rice, 1,500 bags of 1kg semovita and 500 cartons of noodles to the State government.
Also in Ekiti, the company said it would sustain the improved power supply to its coverage areas during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown and beyond.
IBEDC Osun Regional Head, Akin Ogunleye, who said this, added that the power formerly consumed by some industries had been diverted to homes this period.
He also made a donation of similar relief items to the State government.
