Some aggrieved commercial drivers in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday, protested against extortion of members, saying that the injustice must be addressed by the state government.
The aggrieved drivers alleged that they now pay about N600 daily as ticket fee against the N200 stipulated by the Oyo State Government under the new Park Management System.
One of them, who spoke anonymously, said, “We are not going to give anybody above the N200 that we were asked to pay by the state government. What the park managers are doing is totally different from the instruction given.”
The State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof Raphael Afonja had earlier disclosed the inauguration of new park managers.
He said, “I am here to inform you of the recent development concerning the motor parks, garages, and quarries.
“Regarding the illegal collection of fees in the state at the motor parks and garages including quarries, moving forward, these park managers and those who have been appointed will be collecting funds on behalf of the government.”
