Ramon Abbas, also known as Ray Hushpuppi, has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment over charges related to a multimillion-dollar scam that targeted companies in the United States and overseas.
In addition to the prison sentence, Hushpuppi was also ordered to pay $1.7 million in restitution to two fraud victims. The 40-year-old, who had already spent two years in prison, is expected to spend nine more years behind bars in the US.
Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in June 2020, alongside 12 accomplices over allegations of hacking, impersonation, scamming, banking fraud, and identity theft.
Before his spectacular arrest in Dubai, the social media influencer, who claimed to be a real estate developer, was known for flaunting wards of cash and his fleet of exotic cars on his now-deleted Instagram page.

Hushpuppi has flaunted exotic cars like Bentley Bentayga SUV, a Lamborghini Urus, a Mercedes-Maybach S650, a Rolls-Royce Wraith and a Ferrari 458 Italia.
His last car purchase was N300 Million Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV. During the arrest over two years ago, about Dh150 million (N18 billion) in cash and 13 luxury cars worth N2.6 billion ($6.8m) were seized from Hushpuppi and his gang, according to the police.
In related news, American rapper and producer popularly known as 50 Cent, has announced plans to release a movie series based on the internet fraudster, Ramon Abass.
Sharing pictures of the convict, 50 Cent made it known via his Instagram account on Wednesday that he was working on a movie project based on Hushpuppi’s story.
The G-Unit Records founder wrote in the caption, “For my scammers I gotta do this one. Hushpuppi series coming soon! GLG, Green Light Gang I don’t miss. #Bransoncognac #lecheminduroi #gunitfilmandtv.”
