On Monday, 8th May, 2023, the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE), in collaboration with the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), visited Nile University, Abuja, on a One-Day mentorship programme for the University’s Engineering students.

According to a statement posted by the Programme Manager, NIHTE, Stephen C. Ozor, the mentorship programme featured a paper presentation by the NIHTE General Secretary, Engr. Dr. Bola Mudasiru, FNSE, FNIHTE, which was captioned “Better Engineers, Safer Infrastructure,” in which the seasoned Engineer shared thoughts to prepare the minds of the future Engineers on the stake they hold and the task ahead of them, in ensuring that the dignity of the profession is upheld.

Also, the NIHTE National Chairman, Engr. Saidu Hassan and the Immediate Past National Chairman, Engr. G. O. Nsonwu, shared encouraging words to the students and charged them to prepare their minds for the requirements for professional practice right from their days of classroom learning.

In her remarks, the Head of Professional Development, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Mrs. Bunmi, educated the students on the categories of membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and its Divisions as well as what it takes to be a registered Engineer with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

In his Vote of Thanks, the Head of Department, Civil Engineering, Prof. Abdulhamid Danjuma Mambo, appreciated the team for coming to the Nile University and impacting on the Engineering students.

He expresses gratitude over the Division’s visit to the school for the second time and this time coming along with representatives from the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute.

The mentorship programme ended with a group photograph of the team with the eminently satisfied students.
