The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), representing the private sector within the tourism industry, led by its President Mr. Nkereuwem Onung has paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) , Aare Abisoye Fadage at their headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The Director General, Aare Fadage, expressed his gratitude for the visit, acknowledging FTAN’s role in fostering unity and cooperation within the industry.
He emphasized NIHOTOUR’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with FTAN, viewing the organization as an integral part of its extended family.
Mr. Nkereuwem Onung, in turn, commended the Director General for his proactive leadership, describing him as pivotal to the industry’s progress.
He reaffirmed FTAN’s stance on collaboration with government agencies, emphasizing their readiness to work hand in hand to advance industry development.
Highlighting a key concern, President Onung pointed out the dormant state of the Sector Skills council, which houses several FTAN members and industry experts.
He urged NIHOTOUR to prioritize its revitalization, citing its potential benefits for industry growth.
Regarding the NIHOTOUR law, President Onung informed the DG about FTAN’s efforts to collaborate on its implementation, including the formation of a committee to articulate private sector perspectives.
He expressed the practitioners’ opinion over the perceived lack of consultation on recent registration announcements, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder engagement.
In response, the DG of NIHOTOUR clarified that the registration initiative aimed to enhance industry data availability, is crucial for its development.
He acknowledged FTAN’s concerns and proposed a stakeholder meeting in February to address outstanding issues and unveil NIHOTOUR’s strategic plans.
The DG affirmed NIHOTOUR’s commitment to fostering collaboration with FTAN, ensuring effective implementation of industry regulations for mutual benefit.
