The Federal Road Safety Corp, Ikeja Unit Command, on Friday sensitised motorists in Ijora area of Lagos and conducts free vehicle safety check for Lagos state Water Corporation.
Speaking during the sensitization, the FRSC Ikeja Unit Commander, ACC Emma Fekoya; who was well represented by Mrs. Iheanachor, the Superintendent Route Commander, Ikeja FRSC, said that the FRSC was established to help reduce road crashes to the barest minimum.
She said that road crashes have resulted in more waste of lives and properties than major communicable disease.
She told motorists in Ijora area of Lagos, that accidents happened, mostly by Human error pointing, ignorance and behavior as the main factor.
“People should know that when driving on the road, mind you that you are driving four vehicles including that of your own vehicle, making it five. Be mindful of the vehicle in your front, your back , your left and your right as it is the more reason why you should be road safety conscious” Fekoya said.
While conducting free vehicle safety check for Lagos State Water Corporation, the Ikeja FRSC boss, through the Superintendent Route Commander, Mrs. Iheanachor, pleaded with drivers and motoring public to always go for medical checkup especially the eyes, for a clearer vision while on the road.
She said, when a passenger in your vehicle refuses to use seatbelt, drop him or her off”. Don’t drive a vehicle that the speedometer is not functioning well, saying that it is insane doing such.
Appreciating the good effort of the FRSC Ikeja, the Director of Admin and Human Resource, Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC), Mr. Sheriff Akinpelu; said that as far as safety training is concerned, FRSC is top.
Mr. Sheriff who on behalf of Lagos state and management of Lagos state water corporation, thanked men of the Ikeja FRSC, for making out time to sensitize us saying that the corporation owe them to high esteem.
He promised that his corporation will keep cooperating with the FRSC in safety rules and its compliance, by making sure that his corporation gets the highway code for all drivers in their domain, install speed limiting devices in their operational vehicles and make safety training a routine thing in the corporation.
