The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Sector Command, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide has ordered an investigation into the cause of the crash yesterday night in Lagos, saying that the driver who flee the scene of the crash will be apprehended and prosecuted once the owner of the truck is identified.
In a press statement signed by the Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, it was confirmed that FRSC Lagos Sector Command received a distress call at 11:30hrs about a crash at Lagos – Ibadan Expressway by Otedola bridge on Sunday 18th July, 2021.
The crash involved a Mack 20ft containerized truck with two different registration numbers LSD 973 XM and FKJ 214 XY, the two other vehicles are Toyota Wagon with registration number JJJ 28 FR and Toyota Camry BDG 597 CY.
The crash involved six (6) occupants with one killed while two males were confirmed injured and the injured has been taken to the hospital for treatment while the driver of the Mack 20ft containerized truck flee the scene before the arrival of rescue teams.
He said that the combined rescued team of FRSC, LASTMA and LASEMA have evacuated all crashed vehicles from the scene.
He further stated that a total number of 3298 trucks and articulated vehicles have been apprehended for various offences since the beginning of this year.
He reiterated that there is no backing down on battles against vehicles without minimum safety standards on Lagos road.
Ogungbemide also commiserated with the families of the deceased and wish the injured quick recovery.
He advised all truck owners to always maintain their vehicles while other motorists are charged to always obey all traffic rules and regulations stating that ignorance is not an excuse.
He said, “In case of emergency, motorists are enjoined to call FRSC Toll free number 122 for prompt rescue and removal of obstructions for free traffic flow”.
