The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has revealed that he has ordered an investigation into the death of three officials of the corps killed by lightning during heavy rainfall.

Oyeyemi also commiserated with the families of the three FRSC officials, who died in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Wednesday.

The officials were struck to death at their office which is located at the Old Ilese Tollgate in the Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred around 10 AM today when the affected FRSC officials were planning for the early morning parade.

It was gathered that there were over 10 officials at the scene of the incident when the thunderstorm struck.

Five officials were affected by the lightning, but two survived and were taken to the hospital after cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered on them by a colleague.

The three officials were confirmed dead at the state hospital, Ijebu-Ode.

The Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, in a statement on Thursday said the Corps Marshal was shocked by the loss of the men. He also prayed for the repose of their souls.

“While other security agencies, at the scene had commenced investigation into the cause of the incident, the Corps Marshal had also set up a board of inquiry and ordered an investigation in order to ascertain all the variables that led to the unfortunate occurrence,” the statement read.
