The State Sector Commander, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, in a telephone interview with a PUNCH correspondent, said the move was to check the high rate of road accidents in the state.

Ogungbemide, during a radio interview on Monday, revealed that 35 commercial vehicles were seized on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for not installing the speed limit devices.

The sector commander explained that the enforcement was still limited to commercial buses.

He said, “When we noticed the increasing rate of road traffic crashes involving commercial vehicles due to speeding, we had to look into the problem and that was why the issue of the speed limiter came up again. We observed that some people that fixed theirs, later tampered with them.

“There will be more enforcement, especially throughout this period and it will continue next year so that people will do the right thing. We will continue and reinvigorate our sensitisation machinery so that we can send the message home.”
