The Ikeja Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recently mobilized to the field, educating and enlightening motorcyclists.

Speaking to motorcyclists in Lagos recently, the Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ikeja Lagos, Commander Emma Fekoya, said that FRSC, as the nation’s Lead Agency for road traffic administration and safety management, is saddled with the responsibilities of preventing or minimizing RTCs on the highways.

“Clearing obstructions on any part of the highways, educating drivers, motorists and other members of the public on the proper use of the highways, is our primary aim and duty”, Fekoya said.

The Command stated that with obligations to seek diverse ways to deliver on its mandates, RS2.16 Ikeja, has given priority on educating motorcyclists in the month of February, noting the constant menace of most motorcyclists in the state.

“The Command believes that robust knowledge of general road safety tips, will invariably translate to a better road use and ultimately reduce road deaths and injuries”.

ACC Fekoya, emphasized to the motorcyclists that the rider is more exposed and vulnerable in case of road crash.

Shee also reminded motorcyclists that the maximum speed limit for motorcycle is 50km/hr and those motorcycles under 50cc are not allowed on the expressway.

According to her, Globally, it has been established that Road Traffic Crashes cost more countries 3% of their Gross Domestic Product. Consequently, Road Transport Crashes (RTCs), is predicted to become the seventh leading cause of death by 2030.
