Immediate past Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has formally handed over the reins of authority of the FCT Administration to the Permanent Secretary Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa. In a well attended ceremony which took place at the official residents of the Hon. Minister was performed amidst accolades for the ex- Minister by staff and other FCT stakeholders.

The Permanent Secretary, in his remarks described the former Minister as a man of deep convictions who not only led by example but often took the moral high road instead flowing with the tide.

According to him, “His (Malam Bello’s) convictions never wavered, no matter the amount of pressure. With him, right was right, wrong was wrong. Black is black, white is white. There were no shades of grey” The Perm Sec commended Malam Bello for choosing to complete projects initiated by his predecessors while initiating others and completing them within his tenure. He mentioned the light rail project and various road projects as examples, adding that his zero tolerance for corruption stood him apart and he will be remembered.  You brought back rust and integrity  into government business. He said.

The Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC) which is the umbrella body of the labour unions in the FCTA presented an award of merit to the former Minister, saying it was the first time such an award would be presented by the union to any Minister of the FCT.

Also presenting an award to the former Minister was the Chairperson of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution Professor Zainab Duke who said only a select few world leaders were recipients of the award of merit and that Malam Bello was well deserving of it based on his achievements as Minister of the FCT.

Also commending the former Minister for his accomplishments in the FCT was the Chairman of the  FCT Press Corps, Iharo Attah who described him as one of the best media friendly ministers.

The FCT ALGON represented by its Chairman, Hon. Adamu Mustapha of Gwagwalada Area Council, also described Malam Bello as an incorruptible administrator who ensured that all Area Council funds were duly released in full to them.

Responding,  Malam Muhammad Bello thanked all those present at the event and admonished the residents of the FCT to treat the city and its environment with care. He advised that the city must be nurtured so that future generations can also enjoy living in it.

Malam Bello also asked the Area Council Chairmen to also properly develop their communities and ensure that amenities are provided in their domains.

He thanked the civil servants who he described as dedicated and experienced and said that a lot of the positive developments in the FCT are as a result of their hard work and dedication. He also paid tributes to the Mandate Secretaries and other political appointees.
