The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of the Ijora-Olopa Bridge in response to the discovery that some miscreants had tampered with the main reinforcing elements of the deck from underneath.

According to a press release issued by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, through his special assistant on communications, Hakeem Bello, the Ijora-Olopa inward Ijora-Oloye-Apapa axis is the failing portion.

As fire accidents and other illegal activities frequently result in substantial damage to the crucial infrastructure built with the nation’s limited resources, Fashola has repeatedly requested unlawful squatters occupying Lagos under-bridges to leave.

The statement claims that as a result of the vandalized roads, routes leading directly to the bridge, including Costain interior Eko Bridge and Carter Bridge descend inward Ijora Oloye, have been restricted to traffic as of last night.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos has also released a traffic advisory in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and other traffic management authorities to make sure that drivers and other members of the general public can use alternate routes.
