A speeding vehicle, on Monday, reportedly somersaulted near the Anambra State Government House in Awka.

The driver is believed to have died on the spot, while the other, who was critically injured, was rushed to a hospital.

The lone crash, which occurred around 4.20 PM, involved a red Toyota Avalon with two occupants.

An eyewitness told our correspondent, “The driver of the vehicle was on top speed. He suddenly lost control and veered off the road and the car somersaulted four times and crash-landed and the driver died on the spot.”

Confirming the crash, the Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Pascal Anigbo, blamed it on excessive speed.

He said one death was recorded in the crash.

Anigbo stated, “Today, Monday, May 18, 2020, a fatal lone road traffic crash was recorded near the Government House, Awka, on the Awka-Enugu Expressway.

“The vehicle involved was a red Toyota Avalon with number plate AKD 69 AFB. Two male adults were involved in the crash, which was reportedly caused by excessive speeding.

“One death was recorded. The dead victim was taken to the morgue by the Red Cross Society.

“The FRSC operatives are on the ground to ensure the free flow of traffic and clear the obstruction caused by the vehicle, which tumbled. The fire service personnel are also present to avert a possible fire outbreak.

“The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Sector Command, Andrew Kumapayi, condoled with the family of the deceased. He advised motorists to always drive with common sense and within stipulated speed limits.
