Former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the Substantive Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

Opeifa, who is generally seen as pragmatic and hardworking, has been described by many who have worked with him as being erratic.

His erratic nature came to the fore during his days as Special Adviser on Transportation to the Babatunde Fashola administration where he overshadowed the then Commissioner.

He thereafter took charge completely when Governor Fashola appointed him as Transport Commissioner during his second tenure.

Before his present appointment, he had served as the Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Task Team (PTT) to free Apapa gridlock by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

He was later appointed as Transport Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by Buhari.

Opeifa takes over from Ben Iloanusi, who was acting Managing Director that replaced former Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, who exited on October 18, 2024, after completion of his second four-year tenure.

Iloanusi, who is the Director in charge of Procurement department, was appointed Acting MD because he is the most senior Director in the NRC.
