Engr. Sarat Lara has, over the years, shown strength and doggedness in the marine transport and allied sectors, making her one of the best hands in maritime services and administration.

Engr. Sarat Lara, who received delegates from Transport Day Newspaper recently,  expressed her gratitude to God almighty and organizers of the “8th Nigeria Transport Awards and Lecture” to deem it fit to select her amongst others.

She said that a lot is being done to give maritime transport and services a new look, make it viable, conducive and safe for users.

The NIWA Lagos boss encouraged women to come out in mass and dominate the maritime sector.

“Before now, it used to be business for the men, but things have to change as we are drawing programs that will engage women in maritime activities like Catch them young; Ocean Ambassadors; Girls go to sea; etc.”

“We are trying to see what we can do to make girls like men’s job in the maritime sector as they could become maritime lawyers, engineers, captains, and others,” she said.

She also encouraged Transport Day Newspaper to keep the good work going by exposing the good works and efforts people put into developing the transport and allied sectors.

Cliffsimeon Akalonu, who represented the Editor, Transport Day Newspaper, Mr Frank Kintum, explained her award as a meritorious one because, during the process of nominations, a lot of individuals were nominated, but after thorough research by the Board of Editors, she was selected.
