Ikeja Electric Plc, one of the power distribution companies in Lagos State, has announced that electricity is not free during the lockdown caused by the Coronavirus pandemic in the state.
The company disclosed this on Monday via Twitter saying “Electricity is NOT free! Not even during the lockdown. Please PAY your bills to enjoy power supply.”
It further noted in a statement that it supports the efforts of the Federal Government and the National Assembly to consider a proposal exploring the possibility of providing free electricity for two months as part of palliatives to cushion the effect of the lockdown on customers.
It, however, added, “At the moment, it is still a proposal undergoing stakeholder reviews. It has not been approved by the Federal Government as a stimulus package or palliative.”

The company urged Lagosians to pay their electricity bills using online platforms so as to continue to have access to power “during this difficult period”.
Lagos has been on FG-ordered lockdown since 11 PM, March 30 as part of efforts to curb the spread of the lethal infection.
