Qoray Mobility and Energies Limited, in partnership with Sterling Bank, is set to break the Guinness World Record for the greatest distance travelled by an electric tuk-tuk in 12 hours with its electric tricycle, the Qoray Teak.
The ‘keke,’ electric tricycle record attempt which is scheduled for January 25, 2025, underscores Qoray’s commitment to advancing sustainable mobility in Nigeria and Africa.
At the official announcement in Lagos, CEO of Qoray, Olabanjo Alimi, described the record attempt as more than just a milestone for the company. “It’s about proving that electric vehicles can perform under pressure and excel in real-world conditions,” he noted.
Beyond the record attempt, the company outlined a long-term vision to make the Qoray Teak the preferred choice for public tricycle transport in Nigeria.
Group Head of Qoray’s Mobility Division, Akinkunmi Akingbogun, stated that engagements have commenced with riders and their unions to highlight the significant benefits of replacing traditional fuel combustion tricycles with the Qoray Teak.
“The Teak offers an incredible 60–70 per cent cost savings compared to internal combustion engines (ICE) vehicles, making it a game-changer for drivers and businesses looking to reduce operational expenses while contributing to environmental sustainability,” he said.
To facilitate a smooth transition, Qoray launched a convenient acquisition model, allowing riders to make a minimum 10 per cent down payment, receive the tricycle for commercial use, and repay the balance over three years. This approach ensures that operators can start earning immediately while transitioning to cleaner, more cost-effective mobility.
The Qoray Teak, powered by a state-of-the-art lithium iron phosphate battery providing over 2,000 deep charge cycles, promises over five years of reliable performance.
