Aliko Dangote has purchased 10,000 units of light pickup trucks, called the rural multipurpose mechanical Equipment, from Indonesia.
According to Indonesia’s Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment and Defense Equipment- Putu Juli Ardika, the trucks will be purchased through Dangote Group.
Putu disclosed that Dangote was interested in the multi-purpose-vehicle due to its ability to carry water and acts as seed processors. He said the trucks would be imported into Africa to serve as means of transportation to rural communities.
“Dangote Group is very interested in importing [the trucks] for its customers in Africa,”
‘Dangote’s team will check three units as a sample to be brought to Africa at the end of January.
He also added that ‘The trucks are set to be exported over five years, with 1,000 units to be exported this year and next year’
This new purchase comes a month after Dangote group purchased 800 units of Shacman trucks that were assembled at the Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company (ANAMMCO) plant, in Enugu.
The 800 trucks brings the total number of trucks, purchased by Dangote Group from ANAMMCO plant, to about 1,650.
The Nigerian-based enterprise also operates in other African countries such as Benin, Cameroon, Togo, Ghana, South Africa and Zambia.
