Less than a week after the seizure of about 120 cartons of frozen poultry products, the Western marine command of the Nigerian custom service has again intercepted 3201 cartons of frozen poultry products smuggled into the country.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Western marine command, the Controller of the command, Comptroller Boyilila Binga said that the products were being smuggled in at the entrance of the bar beach into the country at about 15:00hrs on the 13th of this month.
Also speaking on the two commissioned gun boat by the government and the Controller General of Customs, the Comptroller said, this will help their mobility in carrying out their duty.
The vessels just commissioned are Rolls Royce propelled engines. In his words “you don’t compare a Volkswagen Beatle engine to that of a Rolls Royce. Within the next couple of days you will see them on the high sea”.
Comptroller Binga said value of the products destroyed is N24.4 million. The duty paid value (dpv) is N32.4 million. He said the smugglers escaped by jumping into the water.
