Lions Club International has increased its charters in the country with the inauguration of Lagos Aviators Lions Club District 404-B4 Nigeria, over the weekend in Lagos State.

This followed the swearing in of Clare Okoro, as the pioneer Charter President of the Aviators Lions Club, while new members were inducted, thereby bringing its total membership in the new charter to 40.

In his remarks at the inauguration, Lion Samson Abodunrin, the Governor, Lions Club, congratulated the leadership of the new charter and its members for taking the lead to contribute to humanity in the society.

Abodunrin who was also the Pioneer Director-General, 404-B4 Nigeria, tasked the executives to be transparent, accountable, embrace effective communication, team work and always delegate its members for the good of the club.

He also called on the Charter President to always carry every member along and appealed to members to regularly pay their foreign and local dues which, he emphasised made them bonafide member of the club.

Abodunrin reiterated that the club was for service to humanity and appealed to everyone, including guests to deploy their resources to the upliftment of the less privileged in the society.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, recalled that as a student seeking admission in the university, Lions Club paid his first-year tuition and stipends, amounting to N1,000 in 1986.

According to Ipaye who was also the Commissioner for Health, Ogun State, the scholarship offered to him by Lions Club, enabled him to pay school fee of N279 for a session and addressed some regularly challenges within the period.

He enjoined other members of the society to emulate Lions Club and assist the less privilege in attaining growth.

In her inaugural speech, Lion Okoro, said that the club was all about membership drive.

Okoro assured that the charter would continue to ensure the growth of Lions Club and ensured it reached the 1.5 million membership target worldwide.

In Lagos alone, Lions Club has over 6,000 membership with about 250 clubs.
