The General Secretary, ANAP, Abulrasaq Saidu, stated this while addressing reporters in Lagos on the fifth anniversary of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He called for more training and re-training of workers in the industry, he said the non-replacement of the ageing workforce had negatively affected manpower in the industry.

He described the planned national carrier as a mirage “because it was not built on a solid foundation, especially with its unveiling abroad.”

The ANAP Executive acknowledged that a great deal of work had been done in the aviation sector including the construction of five major terminals across the country and the advancement of the navigational aids that have curbed accidents in the country’s airspace.

He remarked that although the terminals were constructed by the Chinese, Nigerians should be trained to take over from them.

He regretted that Lagos airport Runway 18L had remained closed to traffic after dusk as the government failed to work on it.

Saidu called on State Governments in the country to send at least 10 of their indigenes to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology Zaria, for annual training to increase manpower in the industry.
