Members of the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPAMDA), Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, have dissociated themselves from the planned hardship protest expected to hold from August 1 to August 15.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Saturday, President of ASPAMDA, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe, said the planned protest might end up causing chaos, leading to loss of lives and properties.
According to him, though Nigerians are currently facing some difficulties, there is a need to give President Bola Tinubu some time to make life better for all.
He said, “It is clear that there are challenges in the country, but let us not compound the situation by embarking on protest which may lead to loss of lives and properties.
“Let us give President Bola Tinubu some more time. He has only spent a little over one year in office.”
Emechebe also said, “ASPMDA identifies that this situation did not start today in Nigeria. With the steps President Tinubu is taking, Nigeria will bounce back very soon.
“This is a clarion call for all the Nigerian citizens to sit up, adjust and work with the President to achieve success for the nation.
“ASPAMDA is too busy for this kind of protest because every member is committed to the progress of the nation. That is why we are nation builders; we keep the nation moving by making sure we supply the needed spare parts to make sure Nigerians go around wherever they want to go with their vehicles.
“We are praying for the nation; we are supporting the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu believing that he will direct the nation on the right path to glory.”
He, nonetheless, commended President Tinubu for his initiative in deploying mass transit Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses through the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG).
Numerous groups, trade unions and professionals associations have announced their resolve to opt out of the planned nationwide protests.
Some of the groups are the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Association of Luxury Bus Owners of Nigeria (ALBON), Youth Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), the League of Yoruba Youths for Advocacy, the Kaduna Concerned Group (KCG) and Enugu Innovative Youths.
