The Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr. Jelani Aliyu, has stated that all auto parts imported into the country or locally fabricated must undergo quality test as soon as the NADDC Auto Tetsing centres are commissioned in the country.
He stated this yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 15th Lagos Motor Fair which is currently hosted at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria, Island, Lagos, and organized by BKG Exhibitions, ending July 3.
The DG who added that the three auto testing centres located in Lagos, Zaria and Enugu, would be functional between this year and next year, explained that any auto part distributed in the market without passing through the requisite tests, would be classified as unauthorized.
Mr. Jelani Aliyu also said the NADDC is in the process of building six automotive training centres in each of the geo-political zones in the country.
He added that the NADDC is not unaware of the challenges being faced by stakeholders in the industry, but added that “we should not be defined by our challenges”.
The NADDC boss also said the Council is working with relevant government agencies to enforce the federal government’s Executive Orders 3 and 5 which makes it compulsory for government agencies to patronize only locally made vehicles in the country.
Earlier, the Managing Director of BKG Exhibition, Mr. Ifeanyi Agwu, called on the government to put in more efforts to rejuvenate the auto industry, as he stated that stakeholders are not experiencing the best of times, owing to very low patronage and inconsistent government policies.
Also speaking, the General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communication of Coscharis Group, Mr. Abiona Babarinde, commended the NADDC for its efforts towards moving the industry forward, but also called for sustained tempo.
