Three prominent Nigerian universities- the University of Lagos, (UNILAG), Lagos State University, (LASU),
and the Kaduna State University (KASU), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with Learn Logistics by Kuhne Foundation to promote and expand logistics training in Nigeria.
Speaking on the occasion of the MOU sealing in Ikeja, Lagos, the Managing Director of Learn Logistics by Kuhne Foundation, Dr Andre Bresler, said his organization is committed to enhancing capacity building in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) in developing countries.
According to him, “Kuhne Foundation focuses on regions where public or private funding and local resources are inadequate to provide the necessary LSCM education or meet high-quality standards.
“The signing of this MOU represents a crucial step in our collaborative efforts to improve LSCM education and capacity in Nigeria. This initiative will bring substantial benefits and advancements to the local logistics and supply chain sectors.
“We are about 50 years old and based in Switzerland and we own Simply Logistics, which runs a university in Germany focusing on logistics and business management. We are also into humanitarian logistics, medicine and we have a hospital in Davos, Switzerland and we are also involved in climate issues because we believe in sustainable development and use of resources”.
He urged the Nigerian government to do the needful by providing the counterpart funds for some programmes being sponsored by his organization to continue.
The Vice Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abraham Musa, speaking on the occasion, said logistics is critical in the 21st Century.
“There is no development that will take place without having adequate logistics and supply chain management parameters. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, logistics and supply chain management education is at its infancy. And that is why today is a happy moment for Kaduna State University. It’s a happy moment for Nigeria because we have just signed an MOU for three years with a German-based Learn Logistics by Kuhne Foundation that are leaders in logistics and supply chain management globally.
“And they are supporting Kaduna State University and indeed other universities in Nigeria to set up a logistics and supply chain management education that will usher Nigeria into the next level in the next few years.
“If you want to do anything excellently well, the foundation begins with high-bred professionals. This MOU is targeted at training manpower at master’s and PhD level that will ultimately gain the required experience and then train others at bachelor’s degree level in Kaduna State University,” he said.
In the same vein, the Dean, School of Logistics and Transport, LASU, Prof. Charles Asenime, thanked the organization for the support given his university and others.
