Following the incessant Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) on Nigeria roads, resulting in high casually rates, President Bola Tinubu, has given a marching order to the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to immediately rejig the road safety strategies deployed by the Corps in order to check the menace.
The President gave the standing order via a press release issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
While condoling with members and leaders of the Tijjaniyya Movement in Nigeria over the death of 40 members killed and several others injured in an auto crash on Sunday, the President specifically ordered the FRSC to improve highway monitoring and reduce the number of road accidents nationwide.
The victims were on their way from Kwandari in Plateau State to a Maulud Nabiy celebratory event in Saminaka, Kaduna State when their bus collided with a truck at Lere town of Kaduna State.
The president condoled with the families of the dead and injured and with the governments of Kaduna and Plateau States.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed.
In July this year, no fewer than 25 commuters traveling from Maiduguri in Borno state to the southern of Nigeria were killed in a road crash.
The fatal accident occurred within the Dangwaro International Market, in the metropolitan axis of Kano City.
And on Monday, September 16, Ogun state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency confirmed the death of 18 passenger in Ogbere area of Ijebu East local government, along the Ijebuode/ Ore expressway.
The accident involved a Toyota Hiace,with registration number XA 690AKU with the passengers burnt beyond recognition,while one other sustained injury.
