The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Military School ExBoys Association has formally marked the 70th anniversary of the foremost military school in the country with an anniversary lecture as well as the unveiling of a membership app.
The Guest Lecturer at the event, which held at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi in Lagos, was Major-General (Dr.) Anthony Emeka Life-Ajemba (rtd.) FSS, MSS, GSS, FCM, MD, MNIM, FWACP, FMCP (Cardiology), FNCS, Dip. in Disaster and Military Medicine, CCST, General Medical Royal College of Physicians, London, who is also an ExBoy who finished from the Nigerian Military School Zaria in 1978.
The title of the Lecture was: “Stress and Sudden Cardiovascular Death: The Implications on the Life of Exboys in a Fast Moving World.
Also of interest during the event was the formal unveiling of a membership app meant to capture, save and enhance easy retrieval of members’ data.
In his delivery, Major-General Life-Ajemba advised the members to devise measures to manage stress and adopt active life style as well as exercise and go for regular check-ups.
While delivering his address, the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Association Ayobami Omiyale, a retired Assistant Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) enjoined members to take advantage of the lecture delivered by the retired General, whose last public appointment was the first Director-General, Ministry of Defence Health Implementation Programme (HIP) responsible for all the hospitals and medical facilities in the Nigerian Army, Navy and Airforce.
The Chairman said “When we were elected three months ago into office on Sunday, March 3, 2024 we the new Exco promised to deliver among other things: Welfare and wellbeing of members; Improvement and expansion of the database of members; Improve social interaction among members; Improved discipline and decorum among members; and Identification and support of indigent members of our Association.
“Three months after that election, we are here to tell you that, while the last two have been ongoing, today’s event is pursuant to the first three pledges we made to you.”
According to him, the lecture was held “in solidarity with the National Executive of our association, and other brother Chapters who have exuded enthusiasm in showcasing their joy to the world”.
The membership app which was unveiled during the event was developed by Ex-Boy Gideon Iyiegbu who is a member of my Executive committee of the association.
The Nigerian Military School was established on 20 May 1954 with an initial intake of thirty Boys known as the “First Platoon”. At inception, the school was named Boys Company and the First Platoon was divided into 4 Houses, namely Exam, Inglis, Fairbanks and Swynuerton. The Houses were later renamed – Kaduna, Lagos, Ibadan and Enugu.
